NOVA FINAL WRESTLING RANKINGS: 2025 Top 15 Wrestling Teams in Northern Virginia

The Corner of the Mat 2025 NOVA Wrestling Rankings Top 15 Wrestling Teams.

While the VHSL hosted the 6A, 5A, and 4A Boys VHSL State Championships at different high schools in Virginia Beach, unfortunately, we could not be at all state sites. Please understand that despite having many different state classifications, the NOVA wrestling rankings are ultimately determined by the end-of-season team state placements. These final rankings are based on each team’s postseason state results.

Below are the 2025 post season High School NOVA rankings.

1. Skyline
2. Woodgrove
3. Chantilly
4. Brooke Point
5. Independence
6. St. Paul VI
7. Loudoun County
8. Fairfax
9. Westfields
10. Mountain View
11. Battlefield
12. West Springfield
13. Brentsville
14. James Wood
15. Sherando

We are only going to highlight the top five NOVA teams as we conclude the season ending NOVA rankings.

Skyline High School - Ranked second for most of the wrestling season in the NOVA rankings, Skyline proved their strength by excelling at the Virginia Duals and securing a dual victory over Frank Cox High School, the 5A States Champions. Skyline went on to win the 2025 3A State Championships, defeating last year's state champions, Staunton River. The Hawks also claimed both the 2025 District and Region Championships, advancing 13 wrestlers to the VHSL State Championships. Skyline made history as the first Warren County high school to win a wrestling State Championship, having previously finished second in 2021 and 2022. The Hawks were also led by their three State Champions: Paden Alyea (106), Parker Withers (126), and Josiah Sykes (138).

Woodgrove High School. - Continuing to show strength all season long, Woodgrove consistently remained at the top of the NOVA rankings. They won the 2025 District and Region Championships, advancing 14 wrestlers to the State Championships. After winning the State Championships in 2024, the Wolverines earned back-to-back titles by capturing the 2025 State title with 209 team points. Woodgrove advanced eight wrestlers to the 4A State Semifinals during this one-day event, ultimately having five state finalists. They were led by Sawyer Jones (150) and Ibrahim Zaky (285), who both won State titles for Woodgrove. Having two state championship winning teams on this list is remarkable, as both Skyline and Woodgrove rest at the top of the NOVA rankings.

Chantilly High School - As the 2024-25 season began, all eyes were on Chantilly, which was expected to be one of the best NOVA teams. Finishing fourth in the rankings last year and as the runner-up at states, much of the team had returned. Chantilly won the 2025 postseason District Championships but stumbled at Regionals, only advancing nine wrestlers to the 6A State Championships, two less than the previous year. While Westfield High School topped them at Regionals, the Chargers wrestled better at States, earning 165 team points and staying within reach of Grassfield High School heading into the State Championship Semi-Finals. Advancing seven wrestlers into the state Semifinals, Chantilly could only advance three wrestlers to the State Finals. Despite finishing in second place at states in back-to-back years, this has been a terrific run for Chantilly. The team was led by Michael Santos (106), Carter Shin (113), and Tyler Dekraker (138), who all won states for Chantilly.

Brooke Point High School - While competing in the 5A division over the past few years and winning six state championship titles from 2017 to 2021, the Black Hawks made a surge in the postseason by winning their first 6A Region championship. Resting inside the NOVA rankings all season, Brooke Point was able to pull it together and advance nine wrestlers to the State Championships, staying in the mix for another state title. Brooke Point was led by Jonre Fisher (150) and Chase Van Hoven (157), who became a 4-time State Champion. The Black Hawks ended in third place at States.

Independence High School - While competing in the 5A division, Indy finished in fourth place at the VHSL State Championships, behind Frank Cox, Floyd Kellam, and Great Bridge. Advancing 13 wrestlers to the State tournament, two more than a year ago, it appeared that Indy was on track to make some noise. During the first and second rounds (Quarters) of the State Championships, Indy advanced three wrestlers to the State Semifinals and those same wrestlers advanced to the State Championship finals, with Lucas Johnson (126) being the sole Tiger State Champion. The Tigers had a great season, competing in some of the toughest events all year long, as their results showed.
