The final postseason event is here, even though we all had to wait another week for it to take flight. The VHSL postponement was a result of a mid-week snow and ice forecast across the Commonwealth, prompting the VHSL to adjust to a one-day event on Saturday, March 1st. Originally, the State Championships were to have 4A, 5A, and 6A classifications wrestling at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. However, due to the changes, the VHSL had to find new sites to host the States. The 4A classification will now compete at Tallwood High School, the 5A classification will be hosted by Frank Cox High School, and Salem High School (Virginia Beach) will host the 6A schools. This one-day event will feature each weight class running a full 16-man bracket for the 2025 VHSL State Wrestling Championships. The State bracket comprises four regions (A, B, C, and D), with each region qualifying four wrestlers per weight class for the state competition. There are a total of 55 6A high schools that will be represented in the VHSL State Championships as we highlight some of the top 6A State teams that have advanced the the most wrestlers. The 2025 top 6A State individual advancements by teams:
Grassfield enters the 6A States Championships with the most wrestlers, advancing 14 wrestlers. Many are pointing to the Grizzlies as potential winners of their first State Wrestling Championship by advancing the entire team. Westfield follows with 11 wrestlers, while West Springfield has 10 wrestlers are the next teams with strength in numbers. Five teams are locked in with nine wrestlers each: Brooke Point, Chantilly, Thomas Edison, and Fairfax, that represents the NOVA teams. NOVA’s top-ranked teams, Brooke Point (6X State Champs), Westfield, and Chantilly, all having the highest number of seeds and are expected to be in the mix, battling for the state crown. However, Mountain View (the returning 6A State Champs) also have strong contenders who will make moves and push for the state finals, making these teams ones to watch in the hunt for the championship. The 6A state championships most certainly should prove to show the most excitement of state champions. NOVA ranked Independence advanced 13 wrestlers and have had a great showing all year. Expect Frank Cox who is the returning 5A State Championship team along with Great Bridge who has to also be in the mix and at the top of the leader board in the 5A classification. Woodgrove the returning 4A State Champs will bring a full team as the advancing 14 wrestles onto the State Championship. The Wolverines will be the front runners in capturing the 2025 State Championship. Loudoun County also has shown strength all year and likely have wrestlers advancing forward each round. The VHSL 3A State Championships will take place on Saturday, March 1st. The 2025 VHSL State Championships schools Skyline, Brentsville, Fauquier, Manassas Park, and Warren County will be wrestling at host school Heritage HS. (Lynchburg).
