The 2025 VHSL Wrestling State Championships Results of the 6A, 5A, and 4A classifications

Virginia Beach, VA: As the wrestling State Championships took place this past weekend on March 1st, Virginia Beach hosted the wrestling 6A, 5A, and 4A classifications at three different high schools. The State tournament that was scheduled the week before but got postponed to this weekend. The 3A, 2A, and 1A State Championships were held in southwest Virginia, also at three high schools.

Salem HS, hosting the 6A classification, saw Grassfield HS win their first wrestling state title in school history. The Grizzlies showed strength all season long, being ranked number one by 757 TeamZ (Virginia Beach). Grassfield advanced 14 wrestlers to the state meet and were led by Luca Schinelli (132 lbs) and Christopher Funches (285) who both won their weight classes. Grassfield led all teams with nine state placers.

Grassfield led all teams with nine state placers. NOVA's top-ranked teams Chantilly, Brooke Point, and Fairfax were all in the mix and each had State Champions, making up this four team placements.

Chantilly HS. took second place in the 6A class and had two State Champions: Michael Santos (106 lbs) and Carter Shin (113 lbs). Brooke Point High School finished in third place, led by Jonre Fisher (150 lbs) and senior Chase Van Hoven (157 lbs), both of whom took home gold. Chase Van Hoven's win in his finals made him a 4-time state champion.

Frank Cox High School from Virginia Beach won the 5A State Championship, going back-to-back after winning in 2024. The 8-time State Champion Falcons were led by Karl Ludwig (150 lbs) and Rudy Wagner (190 lbs). Floyd Kellam and Great Bridge tied for second place with 162 team points.

NOVA's top-ranked team, Independence HS., took second place in 2024 and earned fourth place in 2025. The Tigers pushed three wrestlers into the State Championship finals, with Lucas Johnson (126 lbs) being the only individual State Champion.

Woodgrove won the 4A State Championships for the second straight year, outpaced the field with 209 team points, while Loudoun County finished in second place with 136 team points. The Wolverines advanced five wrestlers into the Championship Finals and had two State Champions: Sawyer Jone (150 lbs) and Ibrahim Zaky (215 lbs).
