During this time the Corner of the Mat will also highlight a Most Outstanding wrestler from the counties. Again, the Corner of the Mat would like to wish a great job to everyone.
2023 Most Co-Outstanding Loudoun County Wrestlers 144 Luke Roberts of Loudoun County, a senior was a 3X Region Champion (21/22/23), and a 2x State Champion (22/23). Roberts ended the season at 27-0 and was 56-0 over the past two years. Roberts also earned State runner up status his sophomore year (2021). 165 Rafael Hipolito of Independence, a senior was a 3X Region Champion (21/22/23), and a 3x State Champion (21/22/23). Hipolito ended his senior year going 45-2 and was 32-2 last season and 26-0 his sophomore year (2021). 2023 Loudoun All-County Wrestling Team 106 Anthony Ciotoli - Independence, s Freshmen, took a 1st place at District, 1st at Region and 1st place at the 5A States. Ciotoli went 48-4 for the year. 106 Bryce Schnelzer - Dominion, also a Freshmen, took a 1st place at District, 1st at Region and finish as state runner up at the 4A States. Schnelzer went 45-7 his freshman year. 113 Bryson Rios - Loudoun County, a Senior, took a 1st place at District, 1st at Region and finish as State runner up in the 4A State class. Rios ended the season with a 18-4 season record. 120 Sawyer Jones - Woodgrove, another outstanding freshman took a 1st place at District, 1st at Region and finish as 5A State runner up. Jones compiled an amazing 48-7 season record and will be one of the elite wrestlers for Woodgrove in the 2023-24 season. 126 Cole Wilson - Stone Bridge, a freshmen, he took a 1st place at District, 2nd place at Region and finished the year earning a 3rd place at the 5A States. Wilson went 27-4 for the year. 132 Nic Dimond - Stone Bridge, a Junior and finished 4th at Region and then improved to a 3rd place at the 5A States. Dimond went 34-10 for the season. 132 Esau Oliveira - Independence, a Freshmen, he took 2nd at Region, and then reached the state podium by placing 6th at the 5A States. Oliveira ended the season with a 34-13 season record. 138 Austen Watson - Woodgrove, a Junior, he took a 2nd place at Region, and then also earned 2nd place a the 5A States 5A. Watson will be another Woodgrove wrestlers to watch next year. He finished with a 50-6 season record. 150 Nicholas Marck - Lightridge, a Senior and took 1st place in District, 2nd at Region and then a 2nd place a the 4A State Championships. Marck had a stellar senior year with a record of 52-3 and was on the bubble for the MO wrestler. 157 Santiago Pena - Dominion, a Senior and finished by taking 1st place at Region, and a 2nd place finish at the 4A States. Pena only losing one match all season boosting a 45-1 season record and also on the bubble for the MO wrestler. 157 Zachary Burton - Stone Bridge, a Senior ended up taking 1st at Region, and a 5th at the 5A State Championships. Burton a leader for the Bulldogs and wrestled to a 43-7 season record. 175 Octavian Ashford - Loudoun County, a Junior took a 2nd place at Region, and went 2-2 at 4A States. Ashford finished the season by going 41-8. 190 Cameron Owens - Woodgrove, a Senior as he earned a 3rd place a Region, and the 3rd place at the 5A States. Owens showed much strength by going 47-6 for the season. 190 Jasinto Ayala - Dominion, a Senior he took a 2nd place at Region, and a 5th place a 4A State Championships. Ayala ended a season high record of 47-6. 215 Ilias Cholakis - Rock Ridgea, a Senior, took a 2nd place at Region, and earned 4th place status at the 4A State. Cholakis ended the season with a 37-5 season record. 215 Ethan Lan - Briar Woods, a Senior also took a 2nd place at Region and went 2-2 at the 5A States. Lan the only Broar Woods All County wrestler to make the cut finished the season with a 46-10 record. 285 Alex Musselman - Stone Bridge, a Senior, and finished the post season by taking 3rd at Region, and 4th place at the 5A States Championships. Musselman went 31-4 his senior year. Mat note: All post season placements and season records were pulled down from Track Wrestling. The Corner of the Mat also received input and assistance from Mr. Grinups during this process of identifying many Loudoun County standouts and elite wrestlers. It not hard to notice many wrestling teams in Loudoun County have successful coaching staff and are benefiting from the many youth wrestling clubs and off-season organizations which are serving those high schools.
