Another week and a shake up in the rankings. While some teams continue to travel to different areas around the state and into other states, these rankings are of high school teams in the NOVA region. One of the local NOVA tournaments was the Joe Verciglio at Chantilly HS. Below is some data collected. Battlefield HS earned first place at Joe Verciglio while Robinson and Westfields earned a respective second and third place. Skyline HS traveled south and took second at Old Dominion Cup. Both Battlefield and Skyline moved up in the rankings as Brooke Point falls to second in the rankings while Robinson jumps over Westfield with their 2nd place finish at the Joe Verciglio. Paul VI fell one spot to 6th in the rankings after taking a third at the Easton New Year`s Brawl in Eastern Maryland. Thomas Edison fell out of the top ten with a dual loss to John Handley. Both Sherando and Independence wrestled into the top ten and take on the 8th and 10th spots with a fourth and fifth-place finish also at the Joe Verciglio tourney.

Teams that are on the bubble: While tournaments and dual events are different, most events moving forward into January will be duals with many schools hosting mid-week matches. Look for the Corner of the Mat to do additional high school wrestling team rankings in the weeks ahead. Also updates to the past weekly rankings will be on this page simply adjusting from week to week as the season rolls on.
