The Virginia Duals which took place in Hampton VA this past weekend, might have been the biggest wrestling event in the state of Virginia. Both Skyline, Thomas Edison, Westfield represented the North at this event. Number 3 Skyline HS falls to Virginia Beach Cox HS in the first round and wrestles back winning three matches in a row while defeated number 6 in the rankings Westfield HS 46-28 for a 9th place finish. Ranking last week had Skyline in the third spot in the ranking as they hold that spot again this week. Independence HS. moves up and jumps to 8th in the ranking after beating Woodgrove HS 34-33 in a Thursday evening dual. Independence HS also had five Champions and a second-place finish at the 2023 Panther Invitational. Host Paul VI also move up to 5th and jumps Westfield HS in the rankings with their first-place finish at the Panther Invitational. Sherando HS also wrestle for a first-place finish at the Freedom Duals. Woodgrove stays in the top ten at number 9 as they win the Judges Invitational. Brooke Point wins the Battle at Dinwiddie and team Battlefield takes first at the Potomac Duals on Saturday. Both squads continue to show strength at the top two slots. Mat note, some NOVA teams wrestled out of state at the Escape the Rock.

Teams that are on the bubble: Most events moving forward into January are duals with many schools hosting mid-week matches. Look for the Corner of the Mat to do additional high school wrestling team rankings in the weeks ahead.
