UPDATE AS OF: 2/17/2023 1:30PM Virginia Beach, VA - DAY 1 Championship Round 1: For every 6A, 5A, and 4A schools that entered in the State Championships today all were loaded on a 16-man bracket and would have first round bouts. The VHSL would run the State Championships on a total of 12 wrestling mats inside the Virginia Beach Sports Complex, Virginia Beach. With eight winners advancing in each weight class after the first round no wrestler would be eliminated after this first round. A victory in the opening round would advance wrestlers onto the Quarter Final round. Teams’ advancement points plus bonus points would be earned but placement points would be awarded yet. The next round of the State Championships will be the first round of the consolations followed by the Quarter Championships Final. Below are the class 6A, 5A, and 4A results after the first two rounds. Championships Round 1 - 6A Classification Team Results: Westfield led after the first round with 27 team points Brendan Sholders (113), Carson Easlick (120), Nick Ta (132), Robert Rerras (138), Jake Brubaker (150) while earn two pins. Fairfax earned 21 team points and wint 6-0 in this round. Lead by Eddie Cruz (132), Matt Gashi-Brito (144), Alex Belaoula (150), Lorenzo Pellot-Vazquez (190), Harry Maltese (215), and Anders Skare (285) while earning four pins. Battlefield went 6 - 4 and advanced six Bobcats onto the State Championship Quarter Finals. The Bobcats came out of the gate strong recording 2 earned pins during this round. Currently Battlefield have earned 20 team points and rest in first place after opening Championship round. Logan Katz (103), Ryan Saunders (113), Matthew Arnd (126), Carter Harris (132), Cooper Lockhart, 157), Joseph Lubinskas (285) were the individual wrestlers that won their first-round match for team Battlefield. Championships Round 1 - 5A Classification Team Results: Mountain View went 10-0 in the first opening round. Nicholas Sanders (113), Geoff Whela (126), Benjamin Meinert (132), Dominic Castrejon (138), Tyler Traves (144), Blake Jones (150), Elijah Beltra (157), Corey Bell (175), Issac Castrejon (215) and Clay Bachman(285) all had winning matches for Mountain View. Championships Round 1 - 4A Classification Team Results: Loudoun County is showing much strength with wins from Bryson Rios (106), Lincoln Kelley (120), Josiah Smith (138), Luke Roberts (144), Octavian Ashford (175) in the first round and hold a secomd place in the standings. Sherando advancing seven wrestlers to the States went 4 - 2 and advanced four wrestlers while recording four pins. Sherando is currently in third place. Sherando Anthony Lucchiani (126), Tyler Koerner (132), Zachary Hayes (138), Brogan Teter (144), Keagan Judd (150) all earned victories for the Warriors.
