Post Season Results: District Wrestling Championships in Northern Virginia

The post season has started as wrestlers strap on the head gear for the first level District Championships. While some players were eliminated during this past weekend District tournaments, many NOVA high school teams did not participate in a District Championship events as next week VHSL Region play will be their first event. The VHSL State Championship are just two weeks away.

As noted last week the NOVA Wrestling Ranking will not be adjusted until the end of the 2022-23 wrestling season. But will highlight the top rank teams that did wrestle for a District Championships this past week.

6A Cedar Run District Championships:6
Battlefield HS won the Cedar Run District Championships with 297.5 team points over second place Freedom HS (South Riding) who earned 183 points. Battlefield had eight individual champions: 106 Logan Katz, 113 Ryan Saunders, 126 Matthew Arndt, 132 Carter Harris, 157 Cooper Lockhart, 175 Alex Klos, 215 Abraham Al-Khalil, and 285 Joseph Lubinskas while advancing 13 wrestlers onto Region.

6A Patriot District Championships:
One of the surprising District results was Fairfax HS winning the Patriot District Championships with 252.5 team points over Robinson HS with 237 points. Fairfax HS had four individual District Champions: 132 Edie Cruz, 144 Matt Gashi-Brito, 150 Alex Belaoula, 285 Anders Skar as Robinson also match Fairfax with four champions. This was the second most indivdual District Champions for Fairfax HS in school history, first District Championship since 1998, and all 14 wrestlers advance to the VSHL Regional tournament.

6A Concorde District Championships:
Westfield HS won the Concorde District Championships with 166 team points over eight rank Chantilly who scored and 159.5 points. Westfield had two individual District Champions while Chantilly HS had four individual Champions.

4A Northwestern District Championships:
Sherando HS who is ranked ninth in the NOVA Rankings showed much strength to repeat as District Champions while earning 230.5 team points. James Wood finished in second place 161.5 points Sherando had three individual district Champions: 126 Anthony Lucchian, 144 Brogan Teter, and 150 Keagan Judd.

Private WCAC Wrestling Championships:
Paul VI also wrestled in the WCAC Championships and took second place with 204 team points. St. Mary's Ryken from Maryland won with 276.5 points.

6A Liberty District Championships:
George C. Marshall HS won the Liberty District with 198 while McLean took second with 160.5 points.

6A National District Championships:
Thomas Edison HS won the National District with 238 team points and John R. Lewis HS finished in second with 201 points.

4A Dulles District Championships:
Loudoun County HS won the Dulles District with 306.5 team points while Dominion HS took second with 204 points.

6A Cardinal District Championships:
Woodbridge HS won the Cardinal District with 233.5 team points as Colgan HS was second with 201. Woodbridge had three District Champions and advanced 13 wrestlers onto Regions.

5A and 6A Commonwealth District:
Mountain View HS won with 224 team points as Riverbend HS came in second place with 181 points. Event note: All 5A teams advance individual participant to Region Championships except Colonial Forge HS who is 6A. Some teams did not wrestle their entire starting varsity wrestlers as the Region advancement status was in effect.

Next week all the public 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A VHSL NOVA wrestling teams will be wrestling in Region Championships. There are many Region Championships schedule in NOVA as the top four individual placers in each weight class will advance to the VHSL States on Feb. 17th and 18th in Virginia Beach.
