UPDATE AS OF: 2/16/2024 1:30PM Virginia Beach, VA - DAY 1 Championship Round 1: The Virginia Beach Sports Center is host to the high school 6A, 5A, and 4A Wrestling State Championships. With three classification the Sports Center will entertain over 150 teams in from 12 Regions. Each weight class is built using a 16-man brackets all having eight bouts during the opening round made for some exciting matches. Any wrestler getting their arm raised in the first round would place them in the Quarter finals while no wrestlers would be eliminated yet. The State Championships schedule has the Consolation round 1 and the Quarter Championships Finals starting at 1PM and currently in progress. The leader board after the opening round, 6A – Mountain View, 5A - Cox, and 4A – Woodgrove. Below are more results of the class 6A, 5A, and 4A results after the first round only highlighting NOVA teams.
Championships Round 1 - 6A Classification Team Results: Mountain View is uptop the leader board with 33.5 points while going 9-0. (106) Peyton Van Hoven, (126) Nick Sanders, (132) Mason Knight, (138) Geoff Whelan, (144) Tyler Traves, (150) Dustin Kohn, (157) Juan Vega-domingez, (165) Gabe Cortes, and (175) Blake Jones all had winning matches for Mountain View. Chantilly earned 21 team points and went 7-4 in this round. Led by (106) Shin, Carter, (113) Michael Santos, (120) Ezekiel Keel, (126) Andrew Krajic, (144) Adonis Iparraguirre, (157) Benjamin Weader, and (175) Michael Rivetti, while earning four team pins. Battlefield went 5 - 2 and advanced five Bobcats onto the State Championship Quarter Finals and rest in sixth place. Currently Battlefield have earned 18 team points and rest in first place after opening Championship round. (120) Ryan Saunders, (144) Matthew Arndt, (157) Keegan Pado, (175) Ryan Gioffre, and (285) Joseph Lubinskas were the individual wrestlers that won their first-round matches. Championships Round 1 - 5A Classification Team Results: Cox is in the lead with 30 team points after the first round. Independence when 7-5 and in fourth place with 25.5 team points. (113) Anthony Ciotoli, (120) Aidan Shufelt, (126) Lucas Johnson, (132) Esau Oliveira, (138) Arav Reddy, (165) Nick Kellen, (215) Joseph Johnson, and (285) Gordon Mansfield all advanceed into the Quarters. Championships Round 1 - 4A Classification Team Results: Woodgrove is in the lead with 35 team points and went 11-2 in the opening round. (113) Adam Skinner, (126) Ben Spagnoli, (132) Camden Murray, (144) Sawyer Jones, (150) Austen Watson, (157) Cameron Owens, (165) Brodie Carley, (175) Campbell Frook, (190) Luke Benkelman, (215) Ibrahim Zaky, and (285) Jared Krogh all won their first round bouts. Loudoun County is in third place and showing much strength with wins from Bryson Rios (113) Bryce Schnelzer, (126) Lincoln Kelley, (157)Justin Lowery, (190) Andrew Bedrowsky, and (215) Gavin Goetsch.
