Wrestling Round up: Who can be a 4X District Champion from the Freshman class, results of District Wrestling Championships in Northern Virginia.

The first level post season play the District Championships took place this past weekend, as most schools came together to wrestle to see who would advance onto Regions. While some NOVA high school teams may not have participated in District Championships event, we only share with you the highlights and results of the teams that did bring home the hardware.

But we want to first salute the freshman class as NOVA had 18 freshman wrestlers bring home gold for their respective teams.

As noted last week the NOVA Wrestling Ranking will not be adjusted until the end of the 2023-24 wrestling season. But will highlight the top ranked teams that did wrestle for a District Championships this past week.

NOVA WRESTLING RANKINGS: Top 15 Wrestling teams in Northern Virginia (Jan. 29th)

Commonwealth District Championships:
Mountain View took first place in the Commonwealth with 265 team points while Brooke Point earned second place with 193.5 points. Mountain View had nine individual champions: (106) Peyton Van Hoven, (126) Nick Sanders, (138) Geoff Whelan, (144) Tyler Traves, (165) Gabriel Cortes, (175) Blake Jones, (190) Sean Whelan, and (215) John Pearson while advancing 12 wrestlers onto Regions. WCAC Wrestling Championships:
Paul VI won the WCAC Championships for the first time in school history with seven Champions and 3 runners-up. Those Paul VI WCAC Champions were: (132) Niko Colavecchio, (138) Cole Wilson, (150) Kai Lewis, (157) Merrit Clinton, (165) Leif Clinton, (190) Cash Colbert, and (215) Miles Sanderson. Concorde District Championships:
Chantilly, currently ranked 5th in the NOVA rankings, won the Concorde District Championships with 221 points. Westfield took second place with 193 points. Chantilly earned six first places while advancing 12 wrestlers onto Regions. Those Chantilly District Champions were: (106) Carter Shin, (113) Michael Santos, (120) Ezekiel Keel, (144) Adonis Iparraguirre, (157) Benjamin Weader, and (175) Michael Rivetti. This is the seventh time Chantilly has won the District. Concorde District Tournament

Catoctin District Championships:
Woodgrove continues to show dominance in the post season as they win the District Championships with 283 points. Woogrove had seven first placers: (106) Zac Hartley, (113) Adam Skinner, (144) Sawyer Jones, (150) Austen Watson, (190) Luke Benkelman, (215) Ibrahim Zaky, and (285) Jared Krogh. This was Woodgrove first District tournament Championships title. Catoctin District Results

National District Championships:
Thomas Edison shows strength and wins the National District Championships while earning 275 points. The Eagles had five individual champions: (113) Shan Kolb, (120) David Dight, (144) Archer Sinclair, (150) Colin Jackson, and (157) Joshua Estrada while advancing 13 wrestlers to Regions. Cedar Run District Championships:
Battlefield wins its third straight Cedar Run District Championships with 273.5 team points over second place Freedom (South Riding) who earned 204 points. Battlefield had seven individual champions: (113) Logan Katz, (120) Ryan Saunders, (126) Nicholas Lamary, (144) Matthew Arndt, (150) Owen Exner, (175) Ryan Gioffre, and 285 Joseph Lubinskas while advancing 13 wrestlers onto Region. Liberty District Championships:
McLean won the Liberty district 175 points. McLean had four individual champions: (126) Jacob Daly, (138) Maxwell Kusano, (175) Will Olson, and (190) William Lewey. George C. Marshall took second place as a team. Liberty District Results

Cardinal District Championships:
Woodbridge won the Cardinal District with 254 team points as Colgan HS was second with 195.5 points. Woodbridge had five District Champions and advanced 14 wrestlers onto Regions. The Vikings individual Champions were: (113) Edwin Gonzalez, (120) Sean Goffigan, (126) Robert Kantner, (144) Steven Stotler, and (165) Michael Bertrand. Colgan took second place as a team. Patriot District Championships:
One of the biggest shocking results might have been West Springfield as they won the Patriot District Championships. West Springfield won with 239.5 team points while Robinson took home second place. West Spring had three individual first placers: (120) Darren Hicks, (138) Gregory Barnett, and (150) Hayden Carl. Patriot District Results

Next week all the public 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A VHSL NOVA wrestling teams will be wrestling in Region Championships. There are many Region Championships schedule in NOVA as the top four individual placers in each weight class will advance to the VHSL States on Feb. 16th and 17th in Virginia Beach.
