Wrestling Round up, Washington Post rankings, and the NOVA Rankings - Jan. 29th.

John `Coach K` Kayajanian Memorial hosted by Orange County took place on Saturday, Jan. 27th. and had a few NOVA teams competing with Independence winning. The top 10 finishing teams listed below:

Wrestling midseason Top 10: Paul VI’s recent victories vault it to No. 1: Complete Washington to Post ranking

Rankings as of 1/29/1024:

High School wrestling teams in Northern Virginia continue to show strength as we close out the regular season. We are one week away from the post season beginning.

1. Mountain View - Beat both Riverbend and Brooke Point in a dual. Mountain View has a scheduled dual with Sidwell Friends, DC on Tuesday. They stay #1 as we head into the post season.

2. Paul VI – They beat St. Mary`s Ryken, DeMatha Catholic, Good Counsel, Landon, and St. Frances Academy, MD during this week and last. The WCAC Championship is currently scheduled for next weekend. The Washington Post has Paul VI at #1 and we move them up one spot to #2 in the NOVA rankings.

3. Independence - Wins the John `Coach K` Kayajanian Memorial tournament which took place at Orange County HS. The Tigers also had nine placers at this event and move up in the rankings to #3 in the rankings.

4. Skyline - The Hawks earn big wins over district foes Warren County, Fauquier, and Kettle Run this past week. The Hawks also took a third place at the WSAZ Invitational in Huntington WVa. and move up in the NOVA rankings from six to fourth.

5. Chantilly - Took down both Westfields and Battlefield and have shown much strength over the season. The Chargers moved up from seventh in the ranking to fifth with these two top 10 match victories.

6. Woodgrove - Placed third at the John `Coach K` Kayajanian Memorial. The Wolverines had seven placers at this event. Woodgrove also beat Loudoun County and Park View in a dual last week. They fall back to fifth due to Independence, Skyline, and Chantilly's key wins this past week.

7. Thomas Edison - The Eagles did win district matches but have not been tested as of late. They fell in the rankings due to Independence and Chantilly's key wins this past week.

8. Westfield - Wrestled mid-week district matches and earned victories over Centreville and James Madison but fell to Chantilly. The Bulldogs hold on to #8.

9. Battlefield - The Bobcats go 6-0 in district dual matches but lost to Chantilly mid-week. Battlefield also stays at #9

10. Robinson - The Rams earn victories over Fairfax and South County and move back inside the top 10.

11. Fairfax - Lost to district foe Robinson mid-week.

12. Loudoun Co. - Lost to Woodgrove HS. in a district match last week.

13. McLean - The Highlanders earn dual wins over Langley and Fauquier.

14. Sherando - Placed fourth at the John `Coach K` Kayajanian Memorial. The Warriors had five placers at this event and move into the NOVA rankings.

15. Warren Co. - Won the WC Invitational that they hosted. They also lost to Skyline mid-week.

This will be the last in-season ranking until after the VHSL State Championships.
